I just configured a 2nd sound device and I want to use it as the primary output, I will monitor on the first device.
No matter how I configure the sampler in preferences, the sound effects always seem to come out /dev/dsp.
This is version 2.2.

I just checked this issue and it works properly on my system.
Are you sure you changed the sampler sound card in the audio preferences?
