When ultramixer2 starts up it takes the wave level down to zero in the creative audio mixer console.

that’s weird. Did you try a second soundcard, e.g. an internal onboard sound card (AC97…)? Which UltraMixer version did you try? Which operating system do you use? I am sure there was a bug like that in 2.0.4.
